![]() ![]() It says simply "Copyright 1959" and "First published in 1959 by the Viking Press", with nothing in the location of that sixth line of text. ![]() The first printing has no statement of printing. We do not know if the 5th printing was before or after that publication date (probably after the one copy with this printing for sale does not mention a "before publication" statement). All of these 4 printings thus have the same publication date: Oct. The 3rd and 4th printings add additional such lines to the existing printing statements. The second through (at least) fourth printings all occurred as the result of advance orders, and are listed on the copyright page with statements like "Second printing before publication" (sixth line of type on the copyright page). The title is printed on the yellow side only. These first five printings all have boards which are 1/3-rd yellow on the binding side blue on the outer side. Later printings have the printing number stated on the copyright page the first printing has no such statement. At least the first four printings all had the same $3.95 price (and the 5th probably did as well). ![]() Price listed in the credits for the 1967 Popular Library edition, which also says that there were 5 printings of the Viking Press edition. ![]()
